Zaire Williams of the Brooklyn Nets shines in the loss to the Nuggets

One of the most unique aspects when a team decides to cut their roster and begin a rebuild is the amount of talent that flows in and out of these organizations. Young players are often given a second chance to start a career with rebuilding teams.

The Brooklyn Nets are a team with nothing to lose, and they have begun acquiring young talent while also preparing for the future with win-now players. Ziaire Williams is one of the players the team traded last offseason after a few seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies.

In his first three games of the season, Williams looked solid, playing just under 20 minutes per game. Previously he had shot the ball well from deep, albeit at a low volume.

He shined on Tuesday, scoring 18 points in an overtime loss to the Denver Nuggets. Williams made four of his five 3-point attempts while shooting 7 of 9 from the field in 22 minutes, and also added three rebounds and four assists.

Again, it was a small sample, but Williams easily played his best game since arriving in Brooklyn. If he can replicate some level of Tuesday’s success going forward, the trade could end up being pretty one-sided in the Nets’ favor.

Throughout the season, many players will get a chance to shine the way fourth-year pro Williams did against the Nets, which is one of the beauties of a rebuilding season. Some of these players will look to take on long-term roles at the club as they eventually return to winning ways.
