Your Halloween party isn’t complete without these 8 spooky tunes on the playlist

With Halloween fast approaching, now is the time to complete those spooky last-minute preparations. This year’s All Saints’ Eve takes place on Thursday, October 31st. It is one of the few days of the year when everyone, from children to adults, can dress up as their favorite star, cartoon character or person they have created.

Halloween has long been celebrated in a variety of ways, including trick-or-treating, community events, and festive bar crawls in entertainment districts across the country. Another common celebration is the classic Halloween party. You can achieve this in the comfort of your own home with lots of decor, including themes of classic horror icons like Freddy, Jason, Art the Clown or even the Lipstick-Face Demon Insidious. Party games are also a must to keep guests entertained. These include the Mummy Wrap Race, where the aim is to cover a teammate with toilet paper before time runs out, or the classic Apple Bobbing, where players grab apples from buckets of water using only their teeth. While all these celebrations are taking place, it takes the right tunes to set the mood and keep the energy flowing in the room. Here is a perfect playlist for an evening full of fun, laughter and endless memories.

Michael Jackson – “Thriller” (1982)

It’s arguably one of Michael Jackon’s greatest records, and for good reason. With its disco style, “Thriller” and its accompanying cinematic visuals are based on most horror movie tropes, making it the perfect Halloween-inspired tune. Given his diamond certification status, it’s obvious that many others feel the same way. The spoken word sequences even feature horror acting legend Vincent Price. “Thriller” is a must-have Halloween playlist.

Rockwell – “Somebody’s Watching Me” (1983)

Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me,” which coincidentally was released the year after Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” features MJ’s vocals on the chorus. Jermaine Jackson lends his voice to the backdrop for a melodic tale of paranoia about someone lurking in the shadows, a theme common to many horror films The strangers. Adding this to your Halloween playlist will give you a solid, slightly unconventional choice that will keep the party going.

Rick James – “Super Freak” (1981)

Even though “Super Freak” isn’t exactly inspired by the spooky season and many people dress up as Rick James every year, it’s great for a costume party and can easily be interpreted as a Halloween-appropriate song as long as you take a little time to be creative Reading the words “super freaky.” It might even inspire an impromptu appearance by the shindig’s designated Rick.

Rihanna – “Disturbia” (2008)

Rihanna’s “Disturbia” describes a spooky affair that might scare you – making it a perfect addition to any Halloween playlist that wants to keep up the haunting mood of “Somebody’s Watching Me.” This hit single from Rih’s “Good Girl Gone Bad” is frighteningly good and the breathtaking visuals find the performer in a mysterious alternate world with several ghostly figures.

Missy Elliott – “Get Ur Freak On” (2001)

Missy Elliott encourages listeners to celebrate and literally “get your freak on” with this timeless party anthem that has stood the test of time. In the music video, Missy raps undisturbed while strange-looking figures cavort around behind her in the background. That’s just one reason why this Grammy-winning single deserves a spot on the playlist.

Beyoncé – “Sweet Dreams” (2008)

As nightmares come satisfyingly to life every Halloween, Beyonce’s “Sweet Dreams” is a welcome treat for the party. She sings of a “guilty pleasure” that could become her “sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare,” although the singer is in no way interested in giving up on her love interest.

Will Smith – “Men In Black” (1997)

Add a touch of sci-fi fun to your Halloween party playlist with this next addition. The title single from Will Smith’s sci-fi blockbuster hit “Men In Black” is an upbeat song that’s guaranteed to get the karaoke scene going. Will sings a catchy tune that highlights his character from the film, which happens to be standard Halloween costume inspiration. Even though the song has been removed from the film of the same name, it will still be a welcome addition to the tracklist.

The Weeknd “The Hills” (2015)

“The Hills” is a dark tune about a hot rendezvous after work. The Weeknd is heavily influenced by the horror classic “The Hills Have Eyes” and references it towards the end of the single, not to mention the screaming sound effects which add an excellent spooky touch to Halloween.
