Yellow Jackets troll College GameDay team over FSU picks

Georgia Tech has the receipts.

The program’s social media team is having fun after the Yellow Jackets surprised No. 10 Florida State in a 24-21 thriller in Dublin, Ireland. On Sunday morning, Georgia Tech took on ESPN’s College Game Day.

Desmond Howard, Nick Saban, Kirk Herbstreit and Pat McAfee all voted for the Seminoles. Celebrity guest voter Sheamus chose the Yellow Jackets. Lee Corso was absent from Saturday’s show from Dublin.

The Georgia Tech Football X-Account posted a video challenging the analysts. The Yellow Jackets posted highlights between the clips of the Matchday share why they chose FSU in the game.

Both Howard and Saban pointed to Florida State’s size advantage. However, Georgia Tech continued to dominate at the line of scrimmage. Herbstreit expected FSU to move the ball on the ground, but the Yellow Jackets’ defense had something to say about that. McAfee predicted FSU would win “by a wide margin.”

The Yellow Jackets have plenty of doubters to appeal to. ESPN’s Football Power Index, a measure of a team’s strength based on prediction simulations, gave Florida State a 79.7% chance of winning. The Seminoles were double-digit favorites at most bookies. The on-screen graphic from the picks section says 83% of the vote was for Florida State to win the game.

To Saban’s credit, he also identified the Yellow Jackets as a potential dark horse in the ACC. However, after beating FSU, Georgia Tech may have lost that dark horse status.

Georgia Tech has a lot to celebrate this weekend, but Brent Key’s team has a long season ahead of it. Next up is an intra-city rivalry matchup with Georgia State at Bobby Dodd Stadium. The Sun Belt Panthers finished 7-6 last season after defeating Utah State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
