KANSAS CITY — Aaron Boone didn’t seem too worried about Jazz Chisholm Jr. giving the Royals some bulletin board material.

As part of a response to the Yankees’ feelings about the ALDS’ 1-1 tie following a loss in Game 2 on Monday night, Chisholm indicated that they remain confident of winning the series and expressed regret for their missed opportunities, saying the Royals were “just lucky.” ”

When asked about that comment on Tuesday, Boone said he disagreed with that opinion but understood what Chisholm was trying to say given his comments in previous answers that led to his claim.

“I don’t think they got lucky, I think they did a lot of really good things and came in here and beat us (Monday) night,” Boone said Tuesday after a practice at Yankee Stadium before the Yankees Kansas City flew. “But over time I also looked at the question. What he was more referring to was that we were probably unlucky, there were a few hard hit balls.

“So this question continued to where jazz can sometimes be colorful. Because of the confidence he has in himself and in our group, in his head he thought, “Hey, they got lucky.” But I don’t think that was the case. They obviously played really well. They played two really good games against us and got a win (Monday night).”

At the start of his postgame scrimmage, Chisholm talked about the Yankees being unlucky and the Royals playing strong defensive games against them.

Chisholm had the Yankees’ second-most hit ball of the night – a ninth-inning solo home run off closer Lucas Erceg that brought them within 4-2 – although the hardest-hit ball was Giancarlo Stanton, who hit a double play.

In total, the Yankees hit 15 balls with an exit velocity of 95 mph or more (which Statcast defines as “hit hard”) and won 5 of 15, four of which were singles.

Chisholm’s home run was the Yankees’ only extra-base hit of the night.
