NEW DELHI: New Zealand created history on Saturday by securing their first-ever Test series win on Indian soil, a result that has significant implications for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) rankings.
After suffering its fourth defeat in the current cycle, India is now 62.82 points ahead of Australia by just 0.32 percentage points compared to Australia’s 62.50 points. These back-to-back home defeats have increased India’s chances of a third straight defeat WTC final in danger.

The WTC rankings are now wide open with several teams vying for the top two spots that would secure them a spot in the 2025 WTC Finals. The coming Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia has taken on added significance as India will likely need to win the series to secure their place in the final.

New Zealand’s win also saw them move up to fourth place with 50.00 percentage points, overtaking South Africa who are now in fifth place with 47.62 points. Sri Lanka comes third with 55.56 points.

Earlier, Pakistan secured a decisive nine-wicket win over England in the third Test in Rawalpindi to win the series 2-1. This result moved Pakistan to seventh place with 33.33 points, just behind England who have 40.79 points.
India will face New Zealand in the third and final Test of the series in Mumbai starting November 1 and must win to keep their WTC final hopes alive.
