Woody Johnson was very involved in getting the Haason-Reddick deal done

After the Jets traded for receiver Davante Adams, a source noted that owner Woody Johnson “determined to make the impression that he made the right decision in firing coach Robert Saleh.” We suggested that the next step in making Saleh’s move look like the right one would be to bring reserved defensive player Haason Reddick back into the squad .

It’s no surprise, then, that Woody was heavily involved in the effort to get Reddick’s deal done, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Woody’s goal is generally to win, of course. More specifically, he needs to show that he was right – especially in the face of influential voices like Bill Belichick accusing him of: “Ready, fire, aim“Tendencies.

The Jets have already lost their first game since Saleh. They’ll have Adams by their side as they try to beat the Steelers on Sunday night. Reddick will be available for the Jets’ second short turnaround of 2024: Sunday at New England and then Thursday night at home against the Texans.

With five losses, the Jets are getting closer and closer to having too many to make the playoffs. With seven spots per conference and 17 games, 9-8 seems like the bare minimum.

Can they go 7-3 with 10 games remaining? We’ll find out tonight whether they have to go 6-3 or 7-2 with nine games to go.

Either way, Reddick will be back for the Final Nine. And considering Woody was very involved in getting it completed, it’s safe to assume he’ll be there the rest of the way too. Especially since the trading period still lasts 16 days.
