Women’s soccer team defeats Jacksonville for the second time in a row

Jacksonville, Florida. – The FIU women’s soccer team traveled to Jacksonville University to play the Dolphins on Sunday afternoon and picked up a 3-0 victory, their second consecutive win.

The Panthers wasted no time. Junior Ashley Martinez scored the first goal for FIU after 7:34 minutes, her first goal in the Panthers jersey. Senior Noemi Paquin assisted on the goal, her first of the year.

FIU did not give up and quickly followed up with the second Montelene Dymond She scored her second goal in as many games in the 11th minute. The Panthers continued to put the Dolphins under pressure and scored another goal before halftime with a goal from the senior Nicole Solissupported by another senior Camille SahirulIt is Solis’ third goal of the year, the assist was Sahirul’s first of the season.

The Panthers went into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

The second half was dominated by the defense, with goalkeeper Valery Restrepo once again an outstanding game. The sophomore was credited with four saves in 80 minutes of play that afternoon. Odaliana Gomez held the lead in the last 10 minutes of the game and secured the shutout for the Panthers.

FIU was in the Dolphins’ third of the court the entire game. Nine Panthers were able to make a total of 19 shots on the afternoon, compared to Jacksonville’s six. FIU had eight shots on goal in the game, led by Montelene Dymond who had three in the afternoon.

FIU was able to use many substitutes and on Sunday afternoon there were 21 Panthers on the field, a season high.

It is the Panthers’ second win in a row, they are now 3-1 this season.

FIU remains on the road and travels to Stetson to face the Hatters on Thursday, August 29th at 7 p.m. The game will not be broadcast, but live stats will be available.
