GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s soccer team will begin its 2024 season with an away game against non-conference opponent UNC Wilmington on Sunday, August 18, kicking off at 7:00 p.m. at UNCW Soccer Stadium.

SERIES HISTORY

The two teams last faced each other on September 11, 2022, when the Seahawks defeated the Spartans 5-1 in Greensboro.

This will be the seventh meeting between the two teams in program history, with the series tied 3-3.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

• This will be head coach Stefani Workman’s first year at the helm of the Spartans, but her eighth year with the Blue and Gold.
• UNCG finished last season 7-9-3 overall and 4-4-1 in the Southern Conference (SoCon).
• The Spartans were picked seventh in the 2024 SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll.
• UNCG returns Taylor Mentzerwho finished top of the goalscoring list last season, scoring five goals, which is her personal best.
• The return is also Haydan Erckwho led the Spartans with three assists.
• On the net, Emma Malone started last season and played in 17 games, averaging 1.42 goals against. In her two years with the Spartans, she has averaged 1.322 goals against.
• The Spartans have added six freshmen and one graduate transfer to the 2024 roster.

SCOUTINGUNCW

• The Seahawks finished the 2023 season 5-9-3 overall and 4-5-3 in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).
• The 2023 team recorded seven shutouts, the most since the 2019 season.
• Returning players Kayla Burroughs and Viktoria Hankova received All-CAA honors at the end of last season.
• UNCW was picked eighth in the 2024 CAA preseason poll.
• Burroughs received honorable mention All-CAA during the preseason.
• UNCW defeated Charlotte 2-1 in its season opener on Thursday thanks to goals from Taylor O’Brien and Ayla Vaneus.
• In goal, Morgan Hobbs made five saves and conceded only one goal.
