Women’s football wins 3-1 in season opener

NASHVILLE, TENN. – On Thursday, the Lindenwood women’s soccer team took on Belmont in the Lions’ season opener. Lindenwood picked up a 3-1 victory over the Bruins, with two first-year players scoring their first goal as a Lion.

GAME OVERVIEW
In the first half, Belmont controlled possession for the first thirty minutes of play. Lindenwood regained its momentum in the second half of the period, with Sophia Mueller scored a shot with his left foot outside the box and placed it into the top right corner in the 43rd Minute. After the first half, Lindenwood led 1-0. In the first half, Lindenwood had two shots on goal. Jordan Hollingsworth would make three saves in the first half of the game.

In the second half, Belmont equalized to 1:1 in the first two minutes of the period. Four minutes later, in the 51stst Minute, Mackenzie Compton scores a header from a corner kick to give the Lions a 2-1 lead. Compton’s goal was assisted by Tasneem DizdarevicThirty minutes later, in the 81stst Minute, Anna Johnson headed the ball into the net to give the Lions a two-goal lead with eight minutes left in the first period. Johnson’s goal was assisted by Compton. The Lions held the Bruins scoreless for the final eight minutes of the game.

Hollingsworth was in goal for the Lions and saved four shots.
