Women’s football beaten by Golden Flashes in last away game of the month

KENT, Oh. – The Oakland Golden Grizzlies faced a tough challenge against the Kent State Golden Flashes in a women’s soccer game at Dix Stadium on Sunday.

The game started with an early breakthrough for Kent State in the 5th minute when Samantha Miller scored an unassisted goal to give the Golden Flashes a 1-0 lead.

Oakland tried to respond with a narrow attempt in the 27th minute by Lorelai Millerwhose shot missed, meaning they were unable to equalise before half-time.

Kent State quickly increased its lead in the second half. In the 51st minute, Ava Todd scored her first goal of the season, off an assist from Alisa Arthur, to make it 2-0. Just five minutes later, Arthur got on the scoresheet herself, increasing the lead to 3-0.

Kent State continued to apply pressure and in the 70th minute, Alanna Raimondo scored the fourth and final goal of the game with an assist from Mary Kate Lape, securing a 4-0 win for Kent State.

Oakland made several attempts to get back into the game, with important shots on goal from Shannon Brown in the 58th minute and further efforts by Frankie Mudd And Tally Diamond. However, they were unable to break through Kent State’s solid defense, which was well guarded by goalkeeper Heidi Marshall.

Throughout the game, Kent State dominated offensively, recording 14 shots, eight of which were on goal, compared to Oakland’s seven shots, two of which were on goal.

Despite the challenging result, several Oakland players showed strong individual performances. Shannon Brown led the team with two shots on goal, one of which was on target, making her a key offensive force throughout the game. Frankie Mudd also contributed to the attack with two shots, showing her persistent efforts to break through Kent State’s defense. On the defensive side Lorelai Miller played a crucial role, her efforts including a key interception in the first half that prevented a potential goal. Tally Diamondwho took a shot was another player who worked tirelessly to create scoring opportunities for the Golden Grizzlies.

The Golden Grizzlies return home for a game against Illinois State on Thursday, August 29th at 5 p.m.
