Wings trade defenseman Olli Maata to Utah for third round pick

The Detroit Red Wings traded veteran defenseman Olli Maata to the Utah Hockey Club for a 2025 third-round draft pick on Tuesday night.

The 30-year-old Maata went scoreless in seven games this season with an even plus-minus rating. He had 18 points (four goals, 14 assists) and a plus-14 rating in 72 games during the 2023-24 season.

The trade gives the Red Wings seven NHL defensemen and a chance for veteran Justin Holl and rookie Albert Johansson to play more regularly.
