The following story contains spoilers for Netflix’s The perfect couple.

IF THERE IS ONE Netflix knows how to find addictive shows that draw people in. Most of the time, the streaming giant’s biggest shows are led by one or two big names along with several up-and-coming talents, and sometimes they’re filled with mostly unknown performers trying to make a name for themselves. But The perfect couple, The 40 Fingers, the channel’s latest crime hit, has two built-in appeals: It is based on a bestselling novel by writer Elin Hilderbrand and features an absolutely star-studded cast, including Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Eve Hewson, Meghann Fahy, Dakota Fanning, Jack Reynor and more.

The series tells the twisted story of a wedding weekend in Nantucket that descends into chaos when one of the guests – a member of the wedding party – is found dead on the wedding morning. The series consists of six lean, nasty episodes that manage to pack in mystery, steamy love scenes, and some of the most entertaining characters you’ll see in a series all year. But Netflix has announced it as a miniseries, and by the end of the sixth episode, pretty much everything seems to have wrapped up pretty neatly. Does that mean that The perfect couple is it finally over?

Kidman doesn’t seem to believe that.

“I think there is still a tremendous amount of history and a tremendous amount of future,” she said about the future of the show in an interview with USA Today, and added, “I think it’s ripe,” when asked about the potential of a sequel.

Schreiber is also part of the cast and says in the same interview about the title couple: “They are taking a break now, but who knows?”

Netflix has not yet commented on a return, but there is still plenty for us to look at when speculating about the future of The perfect couple.

will The perfect couple get a second season?

The perfect couple was produced as a miniseries for Netflix, so there are no plans for a second season at this time. And considering that the show’s six episodes wrap up all of the storylines surrounding the murder at the center of the series — and cover Hilderbrand’s book in its entirety — that makes sense.

But we can’t rule out that there are more. Nicole Kidman has already appeared in two other shows—Big little lies and now Nine perfect strangers– which were initially planned as a mini-series, covered the entire book series with the original and then returned for further issues. (Big little lies Season 2 debuted on HBO in 2019 and the stars have already hinted at a possible third season, while Nine perfect strangers Season 2 has been filmed and will be coming soon to Hulu.)

There is no sequel to The perfect couplebut Hilderbrand has written many other similar books. It’s possible that the series’ writers could simply write their own continuation of the story, and it’s also possible that one of the author’s other books could be adapted to fit the characters at the center of the series. The perfect couple; the latter direction is that of last year Founded: City of Prehistoric Times Source material taken from the catalogue of the late author Elmore Leonard.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see. But if there’s any way to see that intro dance again, we will probably be there.
