Will there be a Friends Reunited movie in 2025? Trailer explained

According to a viral trailer, a Friends Reunited movie is coming to Max in 2025. It will be titled “The Episode With Chandler’s Funeral” — but don’t get too excited (or worried) too soon.

Ever since the 10th and final season of Friends (one of the best binge-watchable TV shows of all time) ended in 2004, there has been never-ending speculation and calls for the cast to reunite, be it for a movie or another season.

Her wish came true in 2021 with “Friends: The Reunion,” a one-off special in which the stars visited the set of Central Perk and their old apartments, reenacted scenes and reminisced about their time on the cult sitcom.

Now, following Matthew Perry’s death last year, a trailer has surfaced for a reunion movie centered around Chandler’s funeral. Well, there’s something you should know.

The movie Friends Reunited is completely fake

There will be no Friends Reunited movie in 2025Such a project is still in development.

Could this trailer see some kind of fake? No, but Screen Culture still managed to fool people (the description even calls it a “concept trailer”).

It uses clips from all sorts of movies and TV shows, like Scream and Wolfs, as well as AI-generated images of the cast standing together. “I still can’t believe so many years have passed. After Chandler died, we didn’t reunite until his funeral,” says someone who a little bit as Rachel Green says.

“I know this is a lot to ask, but we need to come together,” she adds before a dramatic version of LCD Soundsystem’s “All My Friends” (the same one that plays in the IF trailer) begins.

The film has garnered over 635,000 views on YouTube, but like Adam Sandler’s fake Simpsons movie, many people in the comments know it’s not real – except for a few.

“A Friends reunion movie is in the works. Too bad one of them won’t be in the movie,” wrote one user. “Nah, I don’t think I could stand a millisecond of it. It’s a great tribute to Matty but seriously way too sad for me,” commented another.

“This reunion is going to be so emotional. But I love this show,” wrote a third. “I think this is in bad taste. Friends is great for what it is. A reunion is nice. But it’s cheesy when they keep trying to revive it,” added a fourth.

Will there ever be a Friends movie?

A Friends movie was already off the table before Matthew Perry’s deathand now it’s unlikely that the cast will ever get back together.

The cast of Friends

A continuation of the series on the big screen is associated with insurmountable hurdles: On the one hand, the success of the sitcom would have to be translated into a film, and on the other hand, the film would have to meet extraordinary expectations.

In 2019, Jennifer Aniston was asked why there hadn’t been a Friends movie. “Because our producers didn’t want it and they wouldn’t allow us to. Look, it wasn’t without our desire, because our fans wanted it so much,” she told Variety.

“I mean, we weren’t all in the same room. But would we have liked to do something together? Yes. It would have been fun. We could have revamped it for a few episodes. But whatever. Maybe it’s better this way, but we’ll never know.”

The cast of Friends

Before the reunion aired, executive producer Kevin Bright said he would be open to a “great idea… but doing the Friends movie with this cast – older friends – is not the same show.”

“The whole energy of the show came not only from the chemistry between the actors, but from the youth. ‘What is my job? Who am I going to fall in love with? What am I going to do for the rest of my life?’ That’s what drove the show,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

“Imagining divorce problems and other things? None of that is appealing. If you want to paint a true version of what would have happened to them, they can’t all still be married and together.”

The cast responded with a firm “no” to the possibility of a movie during the special.

“That’s entirely up to (creators) Marta (Kauffman) and David (Crane), and I heard them say once – and I completely agree – that they ended the show very beautifully, that everyone has a very beautiful life and that they had to uncover all these good things so that there would be stories,” Lisa Kudrow said.

“I don’t want anyone’s happy ending to be ruined. And at my age, you have to grow up to say ‘Floopy’, stop it.”
