Brentford travel to Anfield on Sunday afternoon to face Liverpool in Arne Slot’s first competitive home game as manager of the Reds.

Liverpool finally beat Ipswich comfortably in their opening game of the season. An uncoordinated first half was followed by a fluid attacking game that culminated in goals from Diogo Jota and Mo Salah in the second half.

Slot seemed happy with the results but will certainly expect a more convincing performance from his side at home to Brentford as the Dutchman looks to keep Liverpool firmly in the title race.

Thomas Frank’s Brentford started the season with a home win against Crystal Palace, but were lucky that the result was the same following an error by referee Sam Barrott.

And the south Londoners will have to be at their best to get a result at Anfield with Ivan Toney close to a transfer and Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo stepping in in the striker’s absence.

Here you will find everything you need to know about the game.

Team News

Arne Slot reported that although Jarell Quansah’s half-time substitution against Ipswich was tactical in nature, he has since sustained a “minor injury” and is doubtful for the match.

Cody Gakpo could compete with Luis Diaz for a starting place in the Liverpool eleven.

Brentford have several injury concerns with Josh Dasilva (knee), Aaron Hickey (thigh) and Igor Thiago (meniscus) out, but Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg could soon return to their former club.

forecast

Brentford may have won at home last week, but this week will be a very different test against a Liverpool side that finally showed a taste of what they can do against Ipswich. It doesn’t look like it will be a game-changing result for Arne Slot’s side, but they should get the job done comfortably at home. Liverpool 2-0 Brentford.
