Will Houston overcome the Colts?

The Houston Texans return to NRG Stadium to take on the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8, which could mean a division title for both teams. A team is on a downward trend after losing on a game-winning field goal at Lambeau Field last week. The other is to sustain a two-game winning streak and get healthy again at the right moment.

When the Texans marched into Lucas Oil Stadium for a 29-27 win in Week 1, they let Nico Collins explode, racking up over 100 receiving yards to counter Joe Mixon’s 159-yard rushing performance. Since he was placed on injured reserve, Houston hasn’t had an offensive attack from the air.

Last week, CJ Stroud threw for less than 100 yards and completed less than 47% of his pass attempts. Even after three turnovers, the Texans were unable to pull away in the second half, so Jordan Love was able to mount a comeback and set up Brandon McManus’ game-winning field goal.

Can Houston survive a close home game against an AFC South opponent?

Here are the Texans Wire staff predictions for Sunday’s showdown between the two division rivals:

I’m not comfortable with Houston’s passing game, but their rushing attack was the backbone of the offense. If Mixon can get going early, Stroud will have to avoid losing the ball. Anthony Richardson defeated Houston early last season before leaving the Week 2 win with a concussion. What would he have been like if he had played the entire 60 minutes?

It will be a four-quarter game with several lead changes. Earlier in the year, Houston had won on the road and Indianapolis had done the same. If the Texans got a win last week, they would be on alert, but nothing more. Give me another game-winning field goal from Ka’imi Fairbairn to secure a 6-2 start.

It’s been a tumultuous week of headlines for the Texans after the offensive line imploded in Green Bay. A vulnerable Indianapolis defense could present a perfect opportunity for an offensive unit that needs to right the ship to bounce back.

Anthony Richardson and an unstable Indianapolis offense give Houston plenty of chances to win. The Texans take it one field away and improve to 6-2.

The Colts get some of their stars back, which keeps the game exciting, but Houston manages just enough to secure the win.
