Will George Pickens play in Week 5? Steelers WR has a shocking lack of routes run, snaps

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens had his best game of the season in Week 4 and was hoping to build on that in a Week 5 showdown against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.

However, it didn’t happen that way. In fact, it was the exact opposite with the 2022 second-round pick, who remained very quiet for three quarters.

Pickens recorded just one catch for eight yards, and that came in the first quarter. Overall, the Georgia product only has three targets. But that’s not the only concerning statistic for the Steelers’ No. 1 wide receiver.

According to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, Pickens has only completed 12 routes so far, which is fewer than Van Jefferson (18) and Calvin Austin (16). Additionally, he only played 21 offensive snaps, fewer than Jefferson (32) and Austin (29).

receptions 1
Goals 3
Receiving yards 8

This type of usage is absolutely confusing. The Steelers already lack reliable wide receiver options, so it’s hard to understand why he wasn’t on the field and running routes more often.

Pickens sent a not-so-subtle message to his face Sunday night, writing, “Open F—— Always.”

Some took this to be an expression of his displeasure at the lack of goals. Pickens entered the game with 29 this season, nine more than any other Steelers pass catcher.
