In a statement seen by Se og Hør, Marius admitted (translated into English) that he had “committed bodily harm and destroyed objects in an apartment following an argument while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine”.

“I suffer from several mental disorders that have caused me difficulties throughout my childhood and adult life and still cause me difficulties. I have suffered from substance abuse for a long time, for which I have been treated in the past. I will now resume this treatment and take it very seriously,” he said. “Drug use and my diagnoses do not excuse what happened in the apartment in Frogner on the night between Sunday and last weekend. I want to take responsibility for what I did and I want to explain myself truthfully to the police.”

In his statement, Marius apologized to his girlfriend and family, saying: “For me, the most important thing is to apologize to my girlfriend. She did not deserve what happened that night, nor the extreme pressure from the Norwegian and foreign press afterwards. I know it was hard to be followed by photographers and journalists in such a situation.”

“I also want to apologize to my family. I know that my actions have largely rubbed off on you,” he added. “So, my love, I am sorry. This should never have happened and I take full responsibility for my actions.”
