Will Colorado star play against Arizona?

Colorado football is expected to bring star two-way player Travis Hunter back on the road in Week 8 against Arizona.

One of college football’s most outstanding players is expected to be back in uniform for the Buffaloes on Saturday against the Wildcats, Colorado coach Deion Sanders said earlier this week. Hunter’s return is significant for the Buffaloes as he has played almost every snap on both ends of the ball for Colorado this season and will likely be tasked with stopping Arizona’s star wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan.

Hunter suffered a shoulder injury in the second quarter of Colorado’s loss to Kansas State in Week 7 after one of the Wildcats’ defenders took a hit following a 14-yard catch.

As previously reported by The Coloradoan, Hunter is currently projected as the No. 1 overall prospect on ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr.’s big list of 2025 NFL prospects. He is the No. 1 overall pick in several early NFL mock drafts, including USA TODAY’s Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz.

Is Travis Hunter playing today? Colorado star’s status compared to Arizona

At his press conference earlier this week, Sanders said his two-way star is expected to return Saturday against the Wildcats.

“Absolutely should play on Saturday (against Arizona),” Sanders said in an opening statement during his press conference on Tuesday.

Travis Hunter injury

Hunter’s injury occurred approximately 8 minutes into the second quarter of Colorado’s game against Kansas State in Week 7. On offense, Hunter suffered a hard hit from Kansas State safety Daniel Cobbs after catching a 14-yard pass from Shedeur Sanders.

Here’s a frame-by-frame breakdown of how Hunter suffered the blow to his shoulder from Cobbs in last Saturday’s game:

Shortly after blocking the punch, Hunter left the field and appeared to be in significant pain. The ESPN broadcast showed Hunter choosing not to remove his helmet with his right arm/shoulder as he left the field.

He then went to the Buffaloes’ locker room, where he was looked after by the Colorado training staff. He returned to the field in the third quarter, still in full uniform, but did not play again.

Travis Hunter Stats

Here is a breakdown of Hunter’s stats this season, on both offense and defense:

  • Attack: 49 receptions for 587 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns
  • Defense: Totaled 16 tackles, three passes broken up, two interceptions and one forced fumble
