Will banks be open on Election Day 2024? What you should know

It’s Election Day 2024, and besides heading to the nearest polling place to cast your vote, you may have a few other errands planned for Tuesday, November 5th.

If a financial transaction is involved, you may be wondering if banks will be open on Election Day. Finally, certain government offices, courts and businesses will be closed on Election Day to allow employees time to vote.

A significant number of schools across the country are also closed to mark the day, as many of them serve as polling stations for local cities and towns.

But what about financial institutions? Will your credit union or bank be open on Election Day?

Here’s everything you need to know about the bank’s opening hours on Election Day before Tuesday.

Will banks be open on Election Day 2024?

According to the Federal Reserve, there are 11 federal holidays each year when banks and other financial institutions are closed. These include the following:

  • New Year
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • President’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Juneteenth
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day
  • Veterans Day
  • thanksgiving
  • Christmas

Since Election Day is not a federal holiday, this means that most banks and financial institutions will conduct business as usual (during normal business hours) on Tuesday, November 5th, including Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and other major ones Institutions.

However, some smaller banks or local credit unions may establish special hours or close hours in observance of Election Day. Therefore, it’s not a bad idea to double-check your bank’s opening hours in advance.

Will the stock market be open on Election Day 2024?

Like most banks and other financial institutions, the U.S. stock market will be open and trading as usual on Tuesday, November 5th.
