HENRY COUNTY, Kentucky –

Barbara Gregory met the love of her life, Glenn, over 60 years ago. Their love story began on a double date when they were not each other’s partners. Barbara was dating someone else, but fate had other plans.

“He was just a really good friend, but when I met Glenn, I said, ‘Get me a date with him.’ He got me a date with Glenn and that’s how we met,” Barbara recalls.

The couple married in 1963 and planted a tree when they returned from their honeymoon.

“Over the years, our marriage grew as the tree grew. It grew and grew,” says Barbara.

Just two months after their wedding, Glenn lost his wedding ring near the tree while building a foundation for their mobile home. Despite their best efforts, the ring remained lost.

“We started searching immediately and never found it,” Barbara said.

Glenn died of cancer in December and was buried on her farm. Barbara commissioned Searcy Monument Co. to place a headstone on his grave.

Jonathan Searcy spotted something glittering in the sun. It was Glenn’s wedding ring, which he had lost 61 years earlier next to the tree they had planted.

“The odds are one in a million. It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack. God’s ways are unfathomable,” Searcy said.

Although Barbara is happy to have the ring back, she realizes that another ring is missing. Glenn lost two rings during their marriage and Barbara kept the third ring that she had bought for him.

“I didn’t send it to him. I thought maybe he might lose it on the way to heaven. I didn’t know,” Barbara said.
