The Warriors’ partnership with sharpshooter Buddy Hield has worked out great in the 2024-25 NBA season.

Judging by Golden State’s record and roster, the nine-year veteran couldn’t be a better fit

Hield surprisingly leads Golden State with 21.9 points per game. Unsurprisingly, however, his best 3-point shooting is.

Hield is shooting 50.0 percent from distance on 9.4 attempts per game; He achieved his highest percentage (43.1) in the 2017-18 season for the Sacramento Kings.

While the Warriors are 6-1 heading into Wednesday’s big game against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden, Hield’s performance is a key reason Golden State is so optimistic and competitive.

“Life was fun,” Hield said. “Everyone had open arms. From Steve (Kerr) to Steph (Curry) to Draymond (Green) and the entire organization, I couldn’t be happier to be here.”

Hield’s off-ball movement and 3-point ability are exactly what Golden State needed after losing longtime sharpshooter Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks last season.

Kerr, in particular, is grateful for Hield’s presence at the fence.

“For most players in the league, fit is everything and this fits perfectly into our system. It’s perfect for what we needed… He brings joy to the gym every day. Everybody loves Buddy.”

Hield has been doing homework for his current role for a long time – since his college days.

“I’ve watched these guys my entire career,” Hield, an Oklahoma graduate, said of the Warriors. “In college, I would go to the Warriors games when they came to Oklahoma City and watch them play. I studied them. I always wanted to play in the system they apply to the game.”

Hield was a Sooner between the 2012-13 and 2015-16 seasons. At that time, the Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder were constantly fighting at the Paycom Center, and shots from Curry and Thompson developed the game.

In fact, Hield attributed an important moment in his life to Curry’s transcendence.

“I always tell everyone, ‘If it wasn’t for Steph Curry, I probably wouldn’t have been drafted with the sixth pick for my shooting,'” Hield said. “I’m just happy to be here and I’m excited to keep building.”

The New Orleans Pelicans selected Hield No. 6 overall in the 2016 NBA Draft. His NBA journey has been long and tumultuous, but the Warriors fit Hield like a glove.
