Why are Spectrum customers still experiencing outages after power is restored?

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – Several viewers have contacted FOX Carolina about outages on their Spectrum subscription and we have reached out to respond.

A Spectrum spokesperson said customers may have power back in their homes, but if there is still a power outage in the neighborhood, it could impact their Spectrum service.

The spokesperson explained that there are network hubs that connect areas; The hubs require electricity to power the streets and homes in the community.

They further explain that cable lines can be repaired once utilities have restored power and ensure the area is safe.

Downed power lines can lead to dangerous conditions. Therefore, the area must be examined and cleared by power company personnel before the all-clear is given and restoration work on communication lines can begin.

According to the spokesperson, the Spectrum network in the Greenville and Spartanburg areas suffered more than 188 miles of physical damage, which crews are working to repair.

As utilities clear hard-hit areas and deem them safe, engineering teams are gaining increased access and are on site in accessible areas to restore service as quickly as possible.

Officials said there were still many areas inaccessible to the team.

FOX Carolina also asked the company if it would offer customers credits for the ongoing outages. This is a statement from the company spokesperson:

“We work directly with clients as each has their own unique circumstances and needs.”
