Who is DJ Uiagalelei’s backup at Florida State? Meet Brock Glenn

Florida State fans may not have realized it, but they were in for a rude awakening at the start of the 2024 season, and it came in the form of quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. After a couple of years at Clemson and one season at Oregon State, the former 5-star quarterback joined the Seminoles this offseason in hopes of being a stabilizing force for a team that had been eliminated from the playoffs.

That wasn’t remotely the case. A poor performance by DJU in Ireland led to the Seminoles being surprised by Georgia Tech. But that got worse when he looked even worse in Week 1 against Boston College, putting Florida State in danger of another upset and a truly terrible 0-2 start.

Right after halftime of the BC game, when the Noles were trailing, fans started chanting for the backup to replace DJ Uiagalelei. However, this got fans thinking, who is DJU’s backup and what exactly does this quarterback squad look like?

Brock Glenn is the primary backup to DJ Uiagaleli at Florida State, a redshirt freshman who played just five games for the Seminoles in the 2023 season, allowing him to redshirt. Here’s a look at the full roster, which includes DJU.

Kromenhoek is a 4-star freshman who just joined the program in Tallahassee this season. While neither of the two backups has as much experience, he has even less than Glenn, who would certainly be the player to replace Uiagalelei if head coach Mike Norvell made that decision.

Glenn was a 4-star recruit out of Lausanne Collegiate School in Covington, TN, as part of the 2023 cycle. He was a 4-star recruit according to 247Sports, but a 3-star recruit in the 247Sports Composite, meaning the service itself rated him higher than the consensus of other services.

Glenn, as mentioned, played sparingly in his freshman season at FSU, coming on late against Southern Miss, North Alabama and Florida to attempt four passes. He was used heavily in the ACC Championship Game against Louisville when Jordan Travis and Tate Rodemaker were injured, but only completed 8 of 21 passes for 55 yards. In the Orange Bowl against Georgia, things were even worse, as Glenn completed 9 of 26 passes for 139 yards, but threw two interceptions and no scores.
