Where to watch and stream “¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor!” documentary

Fans who can’t wait to get inside Casa Bonita will soon be able to take a look inside without leaving the comfort of their couch.

A documentary about the reopening titled “¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor!” will be available to stream on Paramount+ beginning October 2nd.

The film follows “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, who bought the Lakewood landmark out of bankruptcy in 2021, as they bring it back to life for Coloradans.

“¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor!” screened at the Tribeca Film Festival and the Telluride Film Festival before opening in theaters across the country in September. This week fans can stream the film for the first time.

The documentary is a must-see for fans of the Denver area, as it’s hard to imagine how poorly the building has been maintained over the decades until you see it. Because they purchased Casa Bonita out of bankruptcy, Stone and Parker did not conduct an inspection before purchasing. This makes for some humbling moments as they try to restore the venue to its former glory.

It’s easy to understand why Casa Bonita’s renovation took nearly two years when viewers see dirt clogging the vents and dripping from the air ducts, metal studs rotting and losing their structure, and layers of grime all over the kitchen and accumulate fire damage. And that’s even before taking into account the construction problems encountered by crews on site, such as a 5,000-gallon-per-day leak in the new pool and the need to redo a shoddy job on the kitchen floor.

“¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor!” aptly captures this piece of Colorado culture by highlighting the restaurant’s history, local events and personalities, including Governor Jared Polis and Chef Dana “Loca” Rodriguez, who was tapped to oversee the kitchen . Viewers will also get deep insights into the ways Parker reinvented entertainment within the venue, from the acclaimed cliff diving show to Black Bart’s cave and more.
