College football is here, and that means the debate over the top 25 rankings is back in full swing.

With most of the Week 1 games completed — with the exception of a top-seeded game on Sunday between No. 12 LSU and No. 23 USC and an ACC game on Monday between No. 10 Florida State and Boston College — the rankings will be updated before Week 2 of the season.

There may also be shifts within the top 25.

It took just one game for the 2024 college football season to produce its first upset, as Georgia Tech defeated No. 10 Florida State 24-21 in a Week 0 game in Dublin. The rest of the top-25 teams in action in Weeks 0 and 1 posted blowout victories, with No. 7 Notre Dame defeating No. 20 Texas A&M 23-13, while No. 1 Georgia crushed No. 14 Clemson 34-3.

There were a few close calls elsewhere in the Top 25, too: No. 3 Oregon managed to beat FCS opponent Idaho 24-14 in a game that saw the Vandals cut the lead to 17-14 late in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Michigan, with Sherrone Moore leading the way, held Fresno State at bay 30-10 in a game that was much closer than the score suggested.

How these and other games will affect the latest Top 25 polls remains to be seen.

Here’s when both the US LBM Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 will be released ahead of Week 2 of the college football season:

When are the College Football Top 25 polls released for Week 2?

The two major college football polls – the Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 – will be released on Tuesday following the Labor Day game between the Seminoles and Eagles on Monday night.

Normally, the Coaches Polls and AP Polls are released every Sunday, but after Week 1, the release is delayed because games are played on Sunday and Monday nights.
