LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Many areas will experience their coldest temperatures since spring overnight tonight…

Freeze warnings will be posted overnight for parts of Nebraska that have never experienced subzero temperatures this fall. For most of Nebraska, the growing season is coming to an end. Overnight temperatures will fall to the mid to upper 20s across much of the warned area.

Dry conditions and increasing winds will also lead to an increased fire risk in the coming days. Parts of the state will see wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Red Flag Warnings and Fire Weather Watches will be in play.

As the fire danger suggests, the chance of precipitation is extremely low through Friday afternoon, but we are seeing a few small chances of rain Friday night into Saturday morning, then again Sunday night into Monday weather systems move through the region. At this point we are NOT expecting widespread, heavy rain… but with many areas continuing to be rain-free this month, we would be beyond grateful.
