The 2024 election is still a month away and deadlines are approaching for Oregon residents to register to vote.

In addition to the U.S. presidential election, Oregon voters will vote on five ballot measures and determine the winner of three statewide offices: Oregon attorney general, secretary of state and treasurer.

Here’s what you need to know before the election on November 5th.

When is the deadline to register to vote in Oregon?

Oregonians have until 11:59 p.m. October 15 to register online to vote in the November 5 election. Registration cards postmarked by October 15th are also valid.

The general rule is that registration ends 21 days before an election.

Where do I register to vote in Oregon?

To register to vote, go to the Secretary of State’s My Vote website and double-check that you meet the requirements:

  • Be a US citizen
  • Be a resident of Oregon
  • You must be at least 16 years old (although you will not receive your ballot until an election on or after your 18th birthday)

You can also fill out a voter registration form and mail it or drop it off at a county election office.

Most eligible voters are already registered to vote if they have interacted with Oregon Diver & Motor Vehicle Services.

The Oregon Motor Voter went into effect in January 2016. Eligible voters are automatically registered when they obtain or renew their driver’s license at the Oregon DMV.

When will I receive my 2024 Oregon ballot?

According to the Secretary of State’s election calendar, first day ballots will be mailed to voters on Oct. 16. The last day for ballots to be mailed is October 22nd.

Ballots were mailed to overseas and military voters on Sept. 21.

Postal votes and replacement ballots must be sent by October 31st.

Ballots will be mailed on Oct. 7 to voters who have an address outside of Oregon but are not overseas or in the military.

October 16th is also the last day on which the state voters’ brochure will be sent out.

When and where do I cast my ballot?

Official drop-off locations will begin accepting ballots on October 16, and mailing of ballots will begin on the same day.

Ballots can be cast until 8 p.m. on election day.

A website to locate the nearest ballot drop box will be available Oct. 16 at sos.oregon.gov/voting/Pages/drop-box-locator.aspx. Ballots can also be dropped off at county government offices on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
