What’s going on with XPeng (XPEV) stock? – XPeng (NYSE:XPEV)

XPeng Inc XPEV Shares traded slightly higher in premarket trading on Wednesday after falling on Tuesday following the release of the company’s second-quarter financial results.

What happened: XPeng reported a 60.2% year-over-year increase in revenue to $1.12 billion. Despite this increase, earnings were below the $1.13 billion expected. Compared to the previous quarter, revenues increased by 23.9%. The company, meanwhile, reported a loss of 18 cents per ADS, which was in line with analysts’ expectations.

XPeng’s revenue from vehicle sales increased 54.1% year-on-year to $0.94 billion. Gross margin improved significantly to 14.0%, recovering from a negative margin in the prior year.

Vehicle margins also improved from -8.6% to 6.4% thanks to cost-cutting measures and a more favorable model mix.

XPeng’s share price has fallen 52% so far this year due to strong domestic price competition.

What else: The company expects third-quarter deliveries to be between 41,000 and 45,000 vehicles, up 2.5 to 12.5 percent year-on-year. XPeng also expects third-quarter revenue to be between 9.1 billion and 9.8 billion yuan, below the consensus estimate of 10.50 billion yuan.
