What to see this weekend

Welcome to Streaming Rewind, a weekly roundup of what’s new and noteworthy as we work to help readers navigate the absolute deluge of TV shows and movies in the streaming space. Check out our last entry.

It’s been a wonderful week of streaming, with shows like Agatha All Along, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and The Penguin giving their all in their current seasons. Battles, sorcery and skullduggery abound! Alongside this, there were a slew of trailers, including an emotional look at the second season of HBO’s The Last of Us and a laugh-out-loud look at the second season of Shrinking on Apple TV+ – which happens to be one of my favorite shows on television.

The Last of Us returns (eventually).

We’re not getting the second season of The Last of Us until sometime in 2025 But considering it’s already fall, the return of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) is closer than you think. The trailer is dark and emotional – in keeping with the tone of the second game, which will inspire most of the second season – and gives us lots of glimpses of new characters. Don’t take my word for it though, check it out here.

I still refuse to believe this is Wicca

I’ve written many words about why I still don’t believe this Agatha All Along’s Teen is an adult Billy Maximoff. While Wiccan – his comic book alter ego – and the teenager have a lot in common, I’m still too far down the MCU theory ladder at this point. This week’s episode showed us how Agatha almost unconsciously protected the teenager from drinking the wine. Why would she do that to a boy whose dog she killed in WandaVision?

I don’t buy it. This young man is either Nicholas Scratch – Agatha’s own son, who causes all sorts of trouble for the Fantastic Four – or someone else entirely.

The siege of Eregion is in full swing

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is nearing its second season finale the Battle of Eregion gave full throttle. Best friends were betrayedwe have seen fingers being chopped off, and it appears that the wall of the City of the Great Forge has been breached. We’ve reached the hopeless stage that lies ahead of all the wonderful seriousness that The Lord of the Rings franchise has become known for, and all signs point to next week’s final episode of season two being a real blast .
