What Seth Littrell said after OU’s 34-3 loss to Texas | sport

No. 18 Oklahoma (4-2, 1-2 SEC) lost to No. 1 Texas (5-0, 2-0 SEC) 34-3 in the Red River Rivalry game in Dallas on Saturday.

Here’s what co-offensive coordinator Seth Littrell said about the Sooners’ loss:

On the offensive dynamics:

“I feel like we had some good chances and good field position early in the first half.”

“You have to get some momentum after halftime and get the chains moving. At some point we have to start making those explosive plays. We just didn’t manage to play the ball consistently. We have to do much better.

“I think it’s been inconsistent – that starts with me. I have to get better and put them in situations where they can be successful.”

On Michael Hawkins Jr. and the state of the receiver room:

“We will never make excuses. He won’t do them and I won’t do them. We have to perform at a higher level no matter who is in there, no matter what

Your senior or two freshmen. … These are the circumstances we have. So once you start making excuses for yourself, it’s going to be a long road.”

“A lot of different guys, a lot of young guys out there – it’s not just Mike. … We need to make sure these people understand what and how we want to accomplish in executing things. We have to carry over the things we do well in the training week into the games.”

On the offensive problems this season:

“There are some positive things in every game, but just not enough. The most important thing is the consistency of the overall execution. Again it becomes frustrating for everyone. It’s a great group. They work extremely hard. Ultimately, we were all able to incorporate this into the game plan. And on Saturdays you have to be able to perform at your best. For some reason we haven’t been able to do that yet. We have to bounce back, come back and work hard to get it right.”

On the offensive style of play for the future:

“We wanted to try to do different things and try different wrinkles in the week off. And when I look back on the tape, we realize that at times we didn’t execute it particularly well. Then sometimes we did it. So it’s definitely a step in the right direction, but we’ll see.”

“I think the biggest thing is for these young people to go out and find things that they really like, that they’re really comfortable with and that they feel like they can execute at a high level. Snap in, snap out, no matter what happens. This is trying to find this piece. It’s a fine line because you always have to show different paths… to get to the things they like.”

“I thought we needed to pass the ball a little more often at times. We have to be more consistent in all areas, not just in the running game, but also in the passing game. … I think there are some good things there. We just have to be more consistent.”
