Wendy’s SpongeBob collaboration disappoints millennials

“SpongeBob” fans, your dream has officially become a reality. But we’re sorry to say that it’s disappointing.

Wendy’s, the Columbus-based fast food chain, is partnering with Paramount to celebrate the 25th anniversary of “SpongeBob SquarePants,” which premiered on Nickelodeon in 1999, with the launch of the Krabby Patty Kollab.

The Krabby Patty Kollab is available starting Tuesday, October 8th and includes two new menu items: the Pineapple under the frosty sea (a vanilla frosty with a pineapple-mango flavored puree) and this Krabby Patty Collab Burger (a quarter pound of beef, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion, and a “top secret shrimp kolab sauce” on a toasted bun).

We at the Enquirer newsroom tried the two menu items to determine: Would the Krabby Patty Kollab be suitable for SpongeBob SquarePants?

Unfortunately, I and my colleagues Haadiza Ogwude, David Wysong and Jolene Almendarez felt that the Krabby Patty Kollab Burger would not impress the good people of Bikini Bottom. Was it a good, plain old burger? Yes. Could it successfully maintain the revered Krabby Patty name? NO.

The top secret Krabby Kolab sauce was a little disappointing as it lacked thickness and flavor and resulted in the burger being good but in Jolene’s words “very wet.”

Haadiza said it gave chum bucket feel. David added that while SpongeBob himself wouldn’t agree, Mr. Krabs would do so because it would likely bring money into Wendy’s restaurants.

I was the only taste tester in the group who gave the collab burger a seal of approval. But my colleagues like to remind me that my knowledge of “SpongeBob SquarePants” is limited, so perhaps take my opinion with a grain of salt. (They are all Millennials while I represent our Generation Z audience.)

The Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty was equally disappointing, lacking the neon yellow hue one would expect from a SpongeBob-inspired dessert. To its credit, the Frosty was infused with orange puree throughout before it melted and essentially turned into a cup of vanilla ice cream within 30 minutes (maybe that was our fault for waiting in the newsroom for this to happen). to eat it).

Since the puree flavor extends to the bottom of the cup, it’s hard to imagine that people under the sea would find this treat impressive.

Want to do your own taste test? Both menu items are available at Wendy’s restaurants nationwide. Here’s where to get one in the Greater Cincinnati area. If you don’t live in the area, you can check the fast food chain’s website to find a Wendy’s near you.
