Weekly Poll: Can the vivo V40 or vivo V40 Pro be your next phone?

This week, vivo launched the V40 duo, two mid-range devices that focus on durability and camera features. Okay, the V40 has actually been around for a while, but it’s launching in India for the first time. The Pro model is all new.

Starting with the vivo V40 Pro, it offers higher performance with a Dimensity 9200+ chipset and faster UFS 3.1 storage. It also has a telephoto camera, a 50MP module with 2x optical zoom.

The vivo V40 ditches the telephoto camera and uses a less powerful but still quite fast Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset with UFS 2.2 storage. Both phones use the same wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle cameras on the back, as well as the same selfie modules.

That means a 50MP main camera (1/1.56-inch sensor, OIS) and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera (119°). On the front, there’s a pretty impressive 50MP module with a 21mm wide-angle lens with autofocus. Both the front and rear cameras can record 4K video at 30 frames per second.

Also worth mentioning is the 6.78-inch curved OLED display (1260p+, 120Hz, up to 4,500 nits) and the large 5,500mAh batteries with 80W fast charging (wired only). We mentioned durability, so here are the details. This comes from the IP69K rating, which stands for resistance to hot water jets (in addition to the IP68 rating for submersion under water).

Let’s take a quick look at the competition. The Xiaomi 14 Civi is available in India for ₹ 40,000 for an 8/256GB phone. It comes with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and a flat 6.55-inch OLED display. This device also loves selfies and has two 32MP cameras on the front – one with a 26mm wide-angle lens and one with a 100° ultra-wide-angle lens. On the back, there is a 50MP main camera (1/1.55-inch), a 50MP 2x telephoto camera and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera (120°). The relatively small 4,700mAh battery supports 67W wired charging.

The Realme 13 Pro+ is still cheaper at ₹32,000 but also offers lower performance with a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset. It has a 6.7-inch OLED display (lower resolution, FHD+) and a 5,200mAh battery with 80W charging. It has a 32MP selfie camera with a 22mm lens on the front.
