MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – We had some pleasant temperatures the first few days of October, but today it’s back to summery warmth as we start the weekend.

However, it won’t last long as a cold front will move through tonight and bring temperatures down again in the first few days of the new week.

What’s next…s

Saturday will be sunny and warm, with temperatures climbing into the low 80s this afternoon. We will get there with the help of strong winds that bring warmth from the south. It will be windy for most of the day, with gusts around 30 mph this afternoon. It’s going to be a tough football game for the players today!

Some clouds will move in this evening as a cold front approaches. There may be a chance of a scattered shower or two around midnight, especially north of Madison. The wind remains strong and turns from the west. Temperatures will be in the mid to lower 50s at sunrise Sunday.

Although the sky will be sunny tomorrow, we won’t warm up too much. Temperatures will remain around 60° in the afternoon, this time with sustained winds from the northwest. Wind gusts will again reach around 30 mph. I wouldn’t bother raking leaves this weekend!

Looking ahead…

On Monday the winds will finally die down and temperatures will remain in the mid 60s. Temperatures will gradually warm over the course of the week: temperatures will be around 70 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs reaching around 80 degrees again on Friday.

The forecast is dominated by sunny skies and it looks like we will continue to stay dry. The weather looks to be cool enough this week to help the fall colors spread across the state, so next weekend could be a good weekend to head north!
