Wedding guest who spent $1,000 is angry after being ‘uninvited’

A wedding guest is shocked after being disinvited from a wedding in a foreign city that he had already spent over $1,000 to attend.

On Reddit, the spurned wedding guest, whose friend is getting married in Asia, shared that they live in North America and were invited to the ceremony about a year ago.

Although they had already booked their flights, they received a message saying they were no longer invited.

“Hey guys, I’m so sorry to tell you this but I don’t have any accommodation available for the wedding. I’m so sorry about that. I hope you haven’t booked tickets yet,” the bride-to-be wrote in a group message.

The confused guest contacted the bride and wrote, “Hey, I literally just booked my tickets and everything three days ago because our agent knew something and figured it out… I’m going to try to cancel but I don’t think I can.”

The bride responded to guests by saying that her wedding hotel staff “will not make any changes in terms of accommodation,” but she might be able to “work something out” if they did not receive a refund for their plane tickets.

The whole situation leaves the guests feeling uneasy, especially after the bride-to-be has asked them not to tell anyone about her potential help, and they are now unsure what to do.

“I’m so embarrassed because I’ve already told my friends and family that I’m invited to a wedding abroad and telling people I’m not invited is so embarrassing. I was so excited about it and really happy for them,” they concluded.

In the comments section, users tried to understand the situation.

“This makes me think she invited way more people than she could accommodate and didn’t realize many people would actually show up for her overseas wedding,” one person wrote.

“That doesn’t make sense, why can’t you just not be there and still attend the wedding?” asked another.

“You shouldn’t be ashamed of this situation. The bride should be ashamed. Weddings abroad are expensive for some people, so it’s common for people to actually plan a year in advance to be able to afford to attend. People in general will be understanding of you in this matter!” commented another.
