WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup, Group B, Day 3: China, Italy and Japan win! – World Baseball Softball Confederation


After a rain break of about two hours, the sun finally shines in Pingtan, China! At 1:00 p.m. local time, China and Peru resumed their suspended game, and China defeated Peru to claim its first win in Group B of the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup. China later defeated the Netherlands to claim its second consecutive victory. Italy scored 13 runs against Peru and also won its first game. In the match between Japan and the Netherlands, Japan scored ten runs to claim its third win in the tournament.

Before we finish, there is one more game on the program: After the conclusion of the Japan-Netherlands match, Italy will face Puerto Rico.

Match No. 9: Japan vs. Netherlands Boxscore

Japan and the Netherlands face off for the fourth game of the day. Japan enters this game with a record of 2-0 and the Netherlands are looking to score their first win of the tournament. Momoki Chinomi will pitch for Japan and Megan Telleman is the starter for the Netherlands.

Japan scored four runs in the first inning with four hits and a walk to take the lead. At the end of the second inning, Japan was leading the Netherlands 9-0.

Japan’s three pitchers combined to allow a single hit against the Netherlands, while their bats provided plenty of offense with ten runs and eleven hits. Japan now leads the table with a 3-0 record.

Match No. 8: Peru vs. Italy Boxscore

Peru and Italy came to this match looking to win the first match of the tournament. Peru sent Brianna Vick to the mound to face Emma Silvia of Italy in the third match of the day.

Italy’s offense started with two outs in the second inning. With five hits, a walk and wild pitches from the Peruvian pitcher, Italy scored five runs in the second inning and thus built up a comfortable lead.

In the third inning, Italy sent twelve players to the plate and eight of them scored, increasing their lead to thirteen runs. Italy sent their reliever Federica Forlani to the mound to get the last two outs in the fourth inning, securing their first victory of the tournament.

Match No. 7: China vs. Netherlands Boxscore

After winning the first game of the tournament, China faced the Netherlands in the second game of the day. YuYan Duan was scheduled to start again, while the Netherlands sent Daniek Van De Wiel to the mound.

China’s offense was quick to seize the opportunity again, scoring a run on Jiayi Chen’s RBI single to take the lead. In the second inning, China scored another run on a passed ball before Xintian Li scored China’s third run.

Although Dutch reliever Lizzy Kwakernaak was able to stop Japan’s attack, China’s starter Duan threw an excellent complete game (5 innings) with only one hit, almost completely stopping the Dutch offense. Combined with several solid defensive plays, China secured its second victory of the tournament in convincing fashion.

Match #6: China vs. Peru Boxscore

China and Peru meet for the first time in the tournament. Yu Yan Duan had the ball for China and Brianna Vick was on the mound for Peru.

China wasted no time and launched its offensive early in the first inning, scoring three runs on four hits to take an early lead. Peru was forced to send its reliever Mayumi Higa Endo to the mound to end the inning. Play was suspended early in the first inning due to weather conditions.

China scored a run in each of the second and third innings before adding three more runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 8-0. China’s reliever Menghuan Zhou pitched a clean one-two-three inning to close the game for China and win the first game of the tournament.
