Washington Spirit celebrates Hispanic Heritage Night on Sunday, October 13th

From the opening of the time slots until the final whistle, activities honoring Hispanic heritage will take place inside and outside Audi Field

Washington, DC (08/10/2024) – The Washington Spirit celebrates its Hispanic heritage this Sunday when it takes on Racing Louisville FC at Audi Field at 5:00 p.m. EDT. Hosting rights to an NWSL playoff quarterfinal game could potentially be at stake in the Washington Spirit’s second-to-last home game of the regular season.

Fans can enjoy activations that celebrate the theme night long before the game begins. At 3:30 p.m., Mathieu Treumun, an artist of Colombian and Chilean descent who specializes in ultra-realistic paintings, will present a live art demonstration paying homage to Spirit midfielder and Colombia native Leicy Santos.

At the same time, local small business Maracas Ice Pops will be selling near the Sandlot Bar (outside Gate A), providing fans with delicious Mexican treats. Originally from Mexico, Julia Padierna-Peralta founded Maracas Ice Pops in Georgetown, Washington, DC to share her love of tropical flavors through handcrafted, all-natural fruit ice pops. DJ Ebb King will accompany Maracas Ice Pops and deliver energetic tunes.

The entertainment doesn’t stop once you enter the gates of Audi Field. Also starting at 3:30 p.m., a roving mariachi band will parade through the hall from the Sandlot Bar. On the Spirit Stage, Pa’ Gozar, a local Latin band, will play various Latin music and teach basic dance moves with Cuban dancers. Meanwhile, DJ

Other entertainment during Sunday’s Hispanic Heritage Night includes Brazilian samba dancers performing on the Spirit Stage from 4:30 to 4:45 p.m. EDT, while Colombian and Dominican dancers perform a mix of cumbia and merengue dances at halftime perform on the field. Also at halftime, the Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) will host a parade of nations around the field.

Be sure to check out the merchandise stands in Spiritville, the Premium Club and around the venue to purchase a new Vamos Spirit trucker hat. Ticket holders should keep an eye on their email later this week to purchase items online to pick up at the stadium on game day.

The Spirit makes Sunday’s game as inclusive as possible for native Spanish speakers. There will be an additional PA announcer relaying messages in Spanish, the Audi Field Command Line will provide the opportunity for Spanish responses, and several videoboard graphics will be repeated in both English and Spanish.

Spiritville will continue to include popular features such as EAFC stations, a PK meet and greet facility, supporters tables and a soft play zone. In addition, face painters and cartoonists are available for this game who can paint flags of different Hispanic countries.

Finally, posters honoring Lauren Holiday Impact Award nominee Anna Heilferty will be distributed to early arriving fans. Heilferty, who was nominated for her tireless service and impact on the community, will be recognized at the start of halftime.

Guest Services

Various services are offered at Washington Spirit games. The Mamava Parental Care Station is located near Guest Services in Gate A. Parking is available to guests in the GEICO Parking Garage located at 1500 South Capitol Street SE, Washington, DC, 20003. The parking garage opens at 3:00 p.m. and closes approximately one hour after the event. There will be 600 seats available on a first-come, first-served basis and cost guests $50. No tailgating is permitted and only credit/debit cards are accepted.

Fans are encouraged to use public transportation on game day and exit at either the Navy Yard-Ballpark or Waterfront Metrorail stations. The Navy Yard Station has more capacity and is just one Green Line stop from the Anacostia Metrorail Station, where parking is also available. Fans can also use the ADA shuttle that runs from the Navy Yard Metro to Audi Field starting before the game and continuing until after the game.
