Washington won its victory over Michigan about nine months late.

The Huskies defeated the No. 10 Wolverines 27-17 in their national championship rematch, thanks to a late interception by Michigan QB Jack Tuttle. Kamren Fabiculanan beat Tuttle with less than four minutes left after Jonah Coleman gave the Huskies the lead with a TD with 6:22 left.

Despite a loss at Rutgers in Week 5, Washington entered the game as the home favorite. The Huskies had the better offensive unit on Saturday, although that wasn’t a high hurdle. Washington QB Will Rogers threw for 271 yards and two touchdowns, although his interception in the fourth quarter with the game tied put Washington in dangerous territory.

However, Michigan blew it right back. Tuttle fumbled to set up Coleman’s go-ahead touchdown. After Fabiculanan beat Tuttle, Washington needed a few more first downs to put the game on ice. They pulled it off thanks to a pass interference penalty on Will Johnson and a hard passer penalty on a third down throw as the Huskies gained a first down and tied the game with a field goal.

Alex Orji started the game for the Wolverines and was pulled in favor of Tuttle. The seventh-year native from Michigan made his debut in 2024 after dealing with injuries during spring training and fall camp. He failed to provide the spark Michigan needed at quarterback.

Orji completed just 3 of 7 passes for 15 yards before being subbed out. Tuttle led Michigan on two touchdown drives, but soon showed he was deadly in his own right with his two turnovers. Tuttle finished the game completing 10 of 18 passes for 98 yards.

Quarterback has been the problem position for the Wolverines all season and it is becoming very clear that the answer is not currently on the roster. Michigan has a team that can compete for the Big Ten title with average quarterback play. But the Wolverines have struggled to make that happen, and it’s hard to see if that will even happen this season.
