Washington Capitals vs. Nashville Predators at Capital One Arena

Now, with half the country morbidly depressed, the Washington Capitals are back on the ice to try to unite and cheer us up. Tonight they host Country Music Night at Capital One Arena and will be wearing their black Screaming Eagle jerseys for the first time this season.

Ooooooooo!

The Hershey Bears’ 2024 Calder Cup championship team will also be honored before the puck drop.

Nashville is in last place in the Central Division and starts the year 4-7-1. GM Barry Despite has threatened a rebuild if the Preds don’t find their footing quickly.

The Capitals have Matt Roy returning to the lineup after injury and will play in just his second game this season. Logan Thompson will be back in goal.

1st period

Bryan Helmer, Patrick Wellar and Nick Bootland were part of the ceremonial faceoff honoring the Bears’ 2024 championship team. There were no Bears players on the ice.

Puck is dropped.

🚨 1-0 Nashville Predators. NSH goal: Juuso Parssinen (1). Assists: L. Evangelista (5), P. Tomasino (1). Time: 03:12.

After the Predators applied some early pressure, Parssinen found the back of the net with a tip-in.

🚨 1-1 draw. WSH goal: Connor McMichael (8). Assists: M. Roy (1), P. Dubois (6). Time: 04:26.

One minute and 14 seconds later, Connor McMichael takes the team lead in goals and sinks a juicy rebound right in front of the goal area. Matt Roy received the first assist and scored his first point as Capital.

On his next shift, Connor McMichael draws a penalty.

Because he’s shorthanded, Gustav Nyquist travels the world and almost hits Logan Thompson with his backhand.

Martin Fehervary is sent off on a semi-breakaway but can’t beat Saros with his backhand by five holes.

Logan Thompson makes a big save, but the slap shot appeared to sting him near the ribs on the left side.

In the break: The Capitals outscored the Predators 18 to 11 and outscored their tries 23 to 14 in five-on-five play.

2nd period
