Warner Bros. TV takes steps toward possible greenlight for Ted Lasso season 4

Ted Lasso may get a fourth season after all, as Warner Bros. TV has optioned three of its main cast members. Deadline reports that WBTV has optioned Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift. All three are regulated by Equity, the British actors’ union.

The report goes on to say that the studio is expected to contact the rest of the main cast, who are under SAG-AFTRA and all need new contracts since their options have expired. This includes Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt, who co-created the show and served as EPs in addition to their main roles, as well as Juno Temple. These moves, along with the fact that the studio has begun setting up a writers’ room, set the stage for a possible fourth season. Sudeikis is believed to be on board for a new season, as the studio would not continue without him.

Sudeikis envisioned the series as a three-season arc that would run onscreen from 2020 to 2023, though he didn’t hold back on another season if the right idea could be found. The series was a huge hit for Apple TV+ and WBTV, bringing credibility to the streaming service and winning 13 Emmys in its three seasons, including two for Outstanding Comedy Series and two each for Sudeikis and Goldstein (for Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Supporting Actor), as well as one for Waddingham for Outstanding Supporting Actress.

If everything goes well, production is scheduled to start in early 2025.
