Walmart is expanding its catalog to include tiny houses

Major retailers seem to have everything for the home these days – including your own home.

Walmart has started selling tiny houses, months after Amazon offered the unusually stylish pop-up apartments. Chery Industrial’s “Expandable Prefab Home” costs $15,900 for the 19-by-20-foot option.

That’s significantly less than Amazon charged for the same tiny home in April. (Amazon was asking $19,000 – although it was offering a $1,000 off coupon at the time. Currently, the home is not available on that site.)

However, bargain hunters should be aware that they can get an even lower price on a slightly smaller version of the prefabricated home if they contact the manufacturer directly. A 15-by-20-foot version of the expandable domicile is currently available for just under $12,000.

If you decide to buy one of these houses, you will need to provide some things yourself, such as a plot of land on which to build the house, as well as a foundation, a power source and a water supply. But the house is equipped with a toilet, a shower and some closets. Door locks are also included.

The house will be shipped folded. Once it arrives, you and a few friends will need to fold out the walls and ceiling to expand it to its full size. Of course, you’re on your own when it comes to furniture, but you can also buy it at Walmart or Amazon.

The tiny home movement has grown in popularity over the past few decades as millennials pushed back against McMansions and real estate prices soared. A 24-year-old who chose a tiny house in her parents’ backyard managed to save enough money to buy a $250,000 home and gain a sizable TikTok following because of the tiny house lifestyle .
