Volleyball Drops Series Final with Iowa

CORALVILLE, Iowa – Rutgers volleyball couldn’t get past the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday night at Xtreme Arena.

RU lost to Iowa in the middle of a three-game road trip and closed out the season series by a score of 27-25, 25-15, 25-20.

  • Junior Aly Borellis got her from 21st Career double-double and third on the season with 24 helpers and 13 digs along with a pair of blocks.
  • Freshmen Avery Jesewitz led the offense with 10 kills and added five digs and an ace. Redshirt junior Alissa Kinkela and in the second year Anna Hartmann each had eight kills apiece.
  • Redshirt freshman Krista Dooley RU led the way at the net with three blocks, including a solo stop.
  • Freshmen Lily Bolen also added in nine excavations for defense.

  • SET 1 (25-27) | After Iowa scored the first two points of the game, Rutgers took the lead with five unanswered points. Lily Bolen gave Rutgers the lead when the Hawkeyes managed to save their serve, only to have it saved Krista Dooley Put down the hammer. An Iowa miss gave RU an 11-7 lead, but the Hawkeyes went on a 9-2 run, including six straight, to take a 16-13 lead. The two teams were in a neck-and-neck race for the next 13 points. As the game progressed, Rutgers fought back and equalized the lead three times. Aly Borellis And Natalie Robinson connected on the right pin to fend off a Hawkeye attack and cut the score to 23-23 Avery Jesewitz Swing tied the set at 24-24 and a Anna Hartmann kill even had the frame at 25-25. However, the Hawkeyes prevailed with a Scarlet Knights swing out of bounds and an ace. Jesewitz led the attack with four kills, while Hartman had three kills on five of her swings.

  • SET 2 (15-25) | While Iowa was 7-2 to start, Rutgers scored five straight games, including an ace Alissa Kinkela to come back and level the set at 7:7. After their timeout was called, the Hawkeyes regained the lead with seven straight sevens, going on an 11-1 run and an 18-8 lead for the eventual victory.

  • SET 3 (20-25) | The frame survived eight early draws. Kenzie Dyrstad served an ace to give RU a 14-12 lead. However, Iowa came back with four straight plays to take the lead and secure a 16-14 lead. It didn’t take long for the lead to change again as the Scarlet Knights used two kills and an ace from Jesewitz to hit back with a 4-1 run and retake the lead at 18-17. However, the hosts completed the victory with a 7-2 run. Jesewitz and Hartman each had four kills in the final set.
