Virginia Tech: Preseason Talk: Offensive Line

Virginia Tech has its entire offensive line back with two players. The Hokies are stronger and more experienced in the starting lineup, and they will have more depth as well. This unit will almost certainly be better than it was a year ago. The question is how much better. Will it improve slightly, improve moderately, or will it take a huge leap forward?

Here’s a look at the pair we saw training on Friday:

LT: Xavier Chaplin (6-7, 323, r-So.), Layth Ghannam (6-5, 302, r-Fr.)
LG: Braelin Moore (6-3, 303, r-So.), Brody Meadows (6-6, 327, r-So.)
C: Kaden Moore (6-3, 310, r-Sr.), Lance Williams (6-3, 310, r-Fr.)
RG: Bob Schick (6-6, 304, r-Sr.), Montavious Cunningham (6-4, 315, r-Jr.)
RT: Parker Clements (6-7, 300, r-Sr.), Johnny Garrett (6-5, 315, r-So.)

As far as I can remember, that two-man line has remained unchanged since the end of spring training. A little stability can be a good thing, and while I’m all for making sure certain linemen are used at more than one position, I think it’s beneficial for most guys to settle into one spot, learn how to play there, and how to work with the guys next to him.
