Virginia Tech Hokies: Win predictions, strengths and weaknesses, quarterback spotlight and more

The Brent Pry era at Virginia Tech got off to a terrible start in 2022, as the Hokies finished just 3-8, their worst record in more than 30 years. Virginia Tech rebounded last season with a 7-6 record, including a win in the bowl game. The program hopes to take another step forward in 2024 after bringing back nearly all of last year’s key contributors. If the Hokies want to become a serious ACC contender, both their offensive line and Kyron Drones as a passer will need to improve.

Greatest strength: continuity

Virginia Tech’s roster remains essentially the same as last season. Of the 29 Hokies who played at least 300 snaps last year, 25 are back for the 2024 season. That stability is a big reason why many expect the Hokies to make a jump this upcoming season.

Biggest weakness: Will the offensive line improve over the course of another season?

Virginia Tech’s biggest problem last year was offensive line play. The Hokies’ front five ranked just 98th among FBS offensive lines in PFF’s rating (61.3). All five starters return, and Montavious Cunningham, who transferred from Georgia State, is expected to step into the starting lineup.
