SIDNEY – A woman was hospitalized with injuries after she crashed into a tree on the median of Interstate 95 near Sidney, authorities confirmed Saturday.

The accident occurred around 3 p.m. Friday when a box truck driven by Ashley Peters, 42, of Ellsworth, skidded on I-95, crossed into the center lane and struck a tree, according to Maine State Police spokesman Aaron Turcotte.

“The State Police dispatch center received a call about a box truck traveling erratically northbound at mile marker 112,” he said in a news release. “As troopers attempted to intercept the truck, multiple calls came in reporting that the same truck had crashed into the median at mile marker 118 in Sidney.”

The truck, owned by Eastern Mold Remediation, was on its side when police arrived. According to Turcotte, Peters had allegedly fallen asleep at the wheel and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

She was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta with “serious, non-life-threatening injuries,” Turcotte said.

According to the Maine State Police, traffic on northbound I-95 was limited to one lane for about three hours Friday afternoon until emergency crews cleared the scene around 6 p.m.
