SEATTLE (AP) – The 2024 Boeing Apple Cup came down to last possession, but Washington fell 24-19 at Lumen Field on Saturday.

This is only the third time since 2008 that Washington State has won the Apple Cup.

The game, at Lumen Field in Seattle, was part of a five-year agreement to continue the rivalry despite no longer playing in the same league. Purple outnumbered crimson in the crowd.

Will Rogers threw for 314 yards and a touchdown for Washington (2-1) and Giles Jackson had eight catches for 162 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown in the first quarter. But the Huskies had to settle for field goals on three attempts inside Washington State’s 25-yard line, and that made the difference.

Washington had one last chance after gaining possession at its own 31-yard line with 3:40 minutes left in the game and Rogers threw 45 yards to Jackson on the first play. The Huskies reached the Washington State 10-yard line and on third down and goal Denzel Boston was forced out at the 1, which allowed the fourth try and the goal.

The Huskies called an option play on the short side of the field and Jonah Coleman was stopped and lost 2 yards. Coleman managed 75 yards on 14 attempts.

Grady Gross converted all four of his field goal attempts, both new career highs. He made field goals from 44, 42, 24 and 43 yards.

Jackson rushed for 101 yards in the first half, giving him the second 100-yard game of his career.

The Huskies open Big Ten play next Saturday at 4 p.m. hosting Northwestern. Tickets are available.
