Utah Jazz player is carried off the field after breaking his leg

Utah Jazz forward Taylor Hendricks suffered a season-ending leg injury in Monday night’s game against the Dallas Mavericks.

The crowd at American Airlines Center in Dallas fell silent after Hendricks fell to the floor midway through the third quarter, writhing in pain as his right leg protruded from his body at a grisly angle.

The 20-year-old second-year player was immediately carried off the field by paramedics and members of both teams’ medical staff as Jazz and Mavs players looked on, seemingly shocked by the unusual, non-contact injury.

After losing the game 110-102, Jazz officials confirmed that Hendricks had broken his fibula and dislocated his ankle, ESPN reported.

Jazz head coach Will Hardy told reporters that Hendricks will return to Utah with the team and undergo further testing.

“It’s hard to take,” Hardy said. “He did a lot of hard work. He’s a great kid and so we’re really just trying to focus on him, on his health, on keeping him fit, on his spirits as he starts the road to recovery. But that’s what they are.” The moments in sports that suck.

Hendricks’ teammates shared Hardy’s sentiments about the player who was the ninth pick in the 2023 NBA Draft out of the University of Central Florida.

“Super unfortunate,” said Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen. “We are all here for him. It’s a shame we lost, but he’s more important than that. We know how hard he’s worked all summer to be ready for this opportunity, so it definitely feels hard for him. We’re going to stay there for him and support him.”
