Usher presents an OMG concert career retrospective in Detroit with a surprise guest

DETROIT – Many fans left the concert saying “OMG!” Usher delivered an energetic retrospective of his career in Detroit with a great production.

The artist, who debuted with his first album 30 years ago, performed the first of two concerts on his “Past Present Future” tour at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday, September 12. The second night is Friday.

This massive production included a huge stage that stretched almost halfway to the audience area, part of which surrounded some VIP concertgoers.

Behind the stage there was a huge screen that opened up to reveal a sort of two-story nightclub area. There was also a second stage at the other end of the arena, surrounded by a bar.

This concert was a bit like watching old school Usher perform on new school Usher, with everything in between.

Both his voice and his dance moves were impressive and on point and he was accompanied at times by numerous talented background dancers.

Usher also changed his outfit several times during the show.

One of the biggest moments was when he announced Detroit rapper Big Sean, who made a surprise appearance and performed several songs on the second stage at the back of the arena.

Usher ended up making and serving drinks at the bar around the stage while the whole thing was going on. It was fun, entertaining and unexpected.

The last time Usher came to town, his performance was, shall we say, lackluster at best. Last December, he headlined iHeart Radio’s “Jingle Ball” at the LCA.

This time he more than made up for it by performing parts or all of over 30 songs from just after 9pm until about 10.45pm.

Usher even danced around the stage on roller skates during some of his performances. It was pretty impressive.

This concert had everything Usher fans could want and more. It was fun, festive and visual. Yeah!
