By defeating Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz became the first American since 2009 to reach a Grand Slam men’s singles final.

On Sunday, he will try to end another long dry spell: no American has won a major final since 2003, when Andy Roddick won on the same courts.

Fritz will face number one seed Jannik Sinner, who effortlessly breezed through the competition to reach the Grand Slam final for the second time this year.

Here’s everything you need to know about Sunday’s final.

Location: Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, New York

Streaming: ESPN+, ESPN Sports

Prize money: 3,600,000 USD (winner), 1,800,000 USD (runner-up)

Taylor Fritz overcame a two-to-one deficit to reach his first Grand Slam final.

In the final stretch, the 11th seed managed to outlast his opponent, who suddenly felt exhausted after the fourth set.

In the final, the 26-year-old American faces the toughest task in all of men’s tennis.

Jannik Sinner has won 33 of 35 hard court matches this year, including his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and winning two ATP Masters 1000 hard court tournaments (Miami Open, Cincinnati Open).

The American public, eager to see a champion for the first time since 2003, will motivate Fritz, but it’s unclear if that will have much of an impact.

The top-seeded Italian is currently performing much better and in order for Fritz to stay in the game, he must be able to cope with the physical situation and avoid a defensive style of play.

Fritz could take a set, but Sinner should win his second Grand Slam title of the year and continue his hard court dominance in 2024.
