US midfielder Malik Tillman scores in PSV Eindhoven’s 4-0 win over Girona in the Champions League

American midfielder Malik Tillman scored a goal and assisted another as PSV Eindhoven beat Spanish team Girona 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Tillman set up Ryan Flamingo for the Dutch club’s opener and then scored himself in the 33rd minute when he beat Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga at the near post.

It was 22-year-old Tillman’s first Champions League goal for PSV since joining the club from Bayern Munich in 2023. He helped the team win the Dutch championship in his debut season.

After the break, Tillman almost set up the third goal, but Luuk de Jong’s shot bounced off the post.

Girona defender Arnau Martínez was sent off shortly afterwards with his second yellow card for a foul on de Jong.

Johan Bakayoko scored late before a Ladislav Krejčí own goal – his second goal of the competition – completed PSV’s victory. It was the Dutch champions’ first win in the league phase after an opening defeat at Juventus, followed by two draws.

Girona have so far recorded one win and three defeats in their competitive debut.

Dinamo Zagreb handed Slovan Bratislava their fourth consecutive defeat in the competition as the visitors came from behind to win 4-1 in Bratislava.

Later games on Tuesday included AC Milan’s visit to Real Madrid in a clash of the competition’s most successful clubs. Madrid’s title haul last season was a record 15, while Milan are next with seven titles.

Also later, Xabi Alonso returns to Liverpool with his German champion team Bayer Leverkusen. Alonso helped Liverpool win the Champions League title in 2005 when they came from three goals down in the second half against Milan.
