Update on Xavier Newman’s injury: The NBC broadcast has positive news about the scary situation

New York Jets offensive lineman Xavier Newman was injured during a Sunday Night Football game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, placed on a spineboard and carted off the field.

The NBC broadcast team gave a brief update after Newman was transported.

“We have a quick update on Jets offensive lineman Xavier Newman,” NBC sideline reporter said Melissa Stark said. “He went to the hospital. The ambulance is on the way. But we can tell you that we have movement in his limbs. He shook hands with the athletic trainers, which was a great sign.”

The television cameras showed video of Xavier Newman exiting the field through one of the end zone exits after being rolled down the sideline. Players from both teams had gathered around Newman before he was taken away.

Newman was injured during an interception.

After the quarterback Aaron Rodgers was picked up, Newman streamed toward the play. He got beat up by the Pittsburgh linebacker Patrick Queenwith the two batting helmets near the sideline.

Newman immediately landed on the turf and didn’t move for several moments as trainers quickly rushed over to tend to him.

Within minutes, trainers had removed his face mask so they could better care for him. However, there was initially no movement, which was a very frightening scene for both players and coaches.

Finally, Xavier Newman was loaded onto a spineboard, placed on a stretcher and then loaded into a cart where he was carried off the field.

Newman is in his fourth year in the NFL and coming through Baylor. He spent his first two seasons with the Tennessee Titans and played the last two seasons with the New York Jets.
